This is an adaptation of Jacob’s Vow in Genesis 28: 20 – 22.
If I go and you feed me, I would give my meat to you.
If I go and you shield me, I would fight with my shield for you.
If I go and you cloth me, I would wear my raiment for you.
If I go and you give me tent and house, I would set my household to walk before you: blameless and holy to your name.
If I go and you lead me, I would lead many more of my kin – and even strangers – to you.
If I go and you be with me, I would be with you.
If I go and you fight – the reviling of life – by me, I would fight for you though the storms of life rage in rage.
If I go and you keep me safe, I would keep your will, safe, in my heart.
If I go and you strengthen me, I would instill your strength upon the earth – even dry earth. I would embrace your might on the porches of my breath.
If I go and you give me breath, you would be the air I breathe or nothing at all.
If I go and you provide for me, I would provide a place for your dwelling – a house without walls made by man for man.
If I go and you go with me, I would go with you wherever you go.
If I go and you keep me in the way that I go, I would keep your ways wherever I go.
If I go and, by peace, I return, I would return to you, I would not go until you say, I would repent and I would be your emblem of grace and mercy.
Lord, GOD, If YOU do these or YOU do these not, I would remain in awe and worship of YOUR essence.
If YOU stay, I stay; and if YOU go, I go.
This pact is that both YOU and I shall not depart from this place of grace and mercy, forever; may this be a reminder of love.
