And it came to pass on the way, at the encampment, that the Lord met him and sought to kill him. Then Zipporah took a sharp stone and cut off the foreskin of her son and cast it at Moses’ feet, and said, “Surely you are a husband of blood to me!” So He let him go. Then she said, “ You are a husband of blood!”—because of the circumcision.
Exodus 4:24-26 NKJV
It’s 6:23GMT(+1) and as I wri te this, it is important to describe the conflict in my heart. I had gotten to this scripture and I planned to skip it but the Spirit behoved me not to lest I refute to tell a balanced narrative. Here it goes.
You have been chosen by GOD, called out for HIS Work, endowed with signs and given grace to show forth the miracles of heaven upon the earth. You have been made God to men and man to GOD’s Bond. You are blessed.
You see the face of GOD and have dwelt in HIS Presence. You know how GOD’s footsteps look like, HIS voice and what HIS thoughts sound like. HE brought you out of desolate speculation, from the slavery of freedom as a wanderer in search of fulfilling peace to the safety of purpose in HIS bond.
It is GOD who ordained you, not man. It is GOD who called your name, not man. It is GOD who gave you breath to breathe and showed you how to breathe HIM in and breathe out fire of judgement in counsel and light. It is GOD who gave you HIS wisdom. This is it.
GOD loves you…not loved as in something which is passed and no more existential but loves, an undying unending affection of deep desire from Father to Son and from divine to the human. GOD waited for a generation of three decades to protect you so that HE could use you for HIS work.
The Work(s) of GOD is to fulfil the Word(s) of GOD.
You have been sent to represent GOD to men and stand for men before GOD. However, it seems , GOD seeks to kill you. It doesn’t make human sense that GOD would seek to end what HE begun.
There is just one problem. When we look at what GOD would have done through the eyes of humanity, we would not understand as much as to judge rightly. That said, what this oral narrative didn’t tell us was filled-up by the actions of its characters.
Then Zipporah took a sharp stone and cut off the foreskin of her son and cast it at Moses’ feet, and said, “Surely you are a husband of blood to me!”
And just as we see that GOD was upholding HIS words in Genesis 17:14, Zipporah was making quick amends as a sign of repentance for solemn salvation. What does GOD’sBondMan learn from this?
It is that GOD is always in the process of cleansing and of purifying the earth, of upholding HIS Word and of ensuring that the statutes of covenant and creation are not maimed or affected. If GOD would use you to bring sound judgement to the earth, then you, too, must be fortified to hold judgement to the earth. If not, there is a gulf of guilt and willful disqualification between you and the assignment. So what stands between the fulfilment of your assignment and you? What is your wrong buffer of accusation?
For Moses, it was an uncircumcised child; to you, it could be an old habit, a deteriorating thought, a misinformed action, a slow but strong weakness. For me it could be firmness to service, loyalty to the mind, adequate time for what time should be for. GOD would not spare HIS rare investment to tarnish the establishment of HIS Kingdom upon the earth.
So where is the place of Mercy?
It would be shown in BOND 148
